Our Annual Pet Food Drive

“Those who teach us the most about humanity aren’t always human.” – Donald Hicks

If you are crazy cat ladies or goofy dog daddies, like us, you all know and have experienced that moment you utter the word “treat” or “food” (or whichever cute name you have decided to call it in your household – ours is “nummies”).  Cue meowing, and circling of your legs/tripping you inadvertently or the kidney bean dance and whining that ensues. Luckily for all our fur-babies this is a ritual they will never go without. Come rain or shine, our four-legged friends will always have full tummies and a warm spot on our laps.

However, in the community outreach that we do, this is not always the case for the fuzzy creatures we encounter. Some may receive food once in a while or are forced to scrounge for their own meals. Our team is trying to end this. Our work through Community Critter Care is aiming to alleviate as much of this hunger pain (for them) and heartache (for us) as possible. Each year we host a pet food drive, Cause for Paws. The blankets and food we receive as donations from this drive, we take into the heart of the communities to distribute for the well-being of the animals in the homes where it is needed most. Many of these families love their pets dearly, but cannot always afford to provide the care their animals need.

Paw-in-paw with this primary drive for dry dog and cat food, we are also collecting as many other necessities as possible for the more difficult months we have yet to face this year. Items such as: blankets, collars and leashes, de-worming medication, chicken feed and financial donations – no matter how big or small. All these items will go towards our Community Critter Care and Animal First Aid reserves and will be used to care for and treat the animals in need, in the communities we serve.

So tonight, once your puppy or fluffy is well-fed, warm and satisfied with kisses planted on their perfect little snouts or heads, think of those in a slightly different situation. Share our post with those who can help or contact us to arrange collection or drop off of any of the above items, or your old blankets and baskets. Together we can become the fur-parents of every doggo and kitty in our greater community.
