Mulberries are berry berry nice
NOW that mulberries are ripening on many a tree on the eastern highveld, on Saturday 5 November, many a family headed out to the Mulberry Festival held at the African Blessings farm Rustfontein, near Bronkhorstspruit.
Visitors were greeted by a colourful array of gazebos sheltering stalls selling anything from fashion, accessories, gadgets, art and of course mulberry products.
Every cent realised from the Festival brings African Blessings closer to realising their dream of establishing the Jochebed Village, a home for abandoned children. Jochebed would be a natural extension to the "safe houses" already administered by the organisation.
Currently, Rustfontein shelters horses and donkeys. Food garden projects and an art school are also part of their activities.
African Blessings is a charity organisation with a Christian ethos that believes in assisting those in need. Its mission statement "Faith and Love Through Action" sums up what all who work there, aspire to.
So reads a mulberry fact sheet - Mulberries are good for you, contain high levels of iron, calcium, potassium and vitamin C. All round they are berry berry nice.
