Mulberry Fest
The festival of berries...20 November 2012As you all know, this year’s annual Mulberry Festival was held on Saturday 10 November and despite ominous weather reports, we were blessed with blue skies and sunshine, all day long. Tantalizing aromas from the various food stalls drifted through the air and the laughter of children echoed to the far ends of the Rustfontein Farm. Games, puppet shows, pony rides and a giant water slide ensured that the children were well entertained while parents spent some time browsing through the stalls. Exhibitors displayed their finest products and their best smiles and according to our sources, the mulberries did their thing just in time for visitors to be treated to berry deliciousness in the form of jams, juices and sauces. 12 teams participated in this year’s Potjiekos competition and were put to the task of preparing a culinary masterpiece for our three gourmet gurus. Despite the tough competition,Bon Appétit(consisting of Miche de Beer, Mariska van Greunen, Gys le Roux and Lindi Eksteen)wowed the judges with their French Oxtail and Cherry potjie – bravo! All funds raised at the Mulberry festival are in aid of African Blessings, with the purpose of achieving Faith and Love through Action. With these contributions, African Blessings is one step closer to completing the Jochebed Children’s Village. |
